The forest and agriculture industries are the largest employers in the area. Acadian Timber and Twin Rivers Paper Company Inc. are the largest companies. Many supporting industries, such as trucking, equipment and labor, are provided by local contractors. Potato farming is the largest sector in the agriculture industry. Other areas include grain, dairy and livestock. The Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments all have a presence as well.
Plaster Rock is home to the Tobique Valley Community Health Center. The Health Center focuses on helping residents improve their overall health and wellness.

Plaster Rock is home to Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools within the NB Dept. of Education (public schools). A Christian School is also located in the Village.
The Plaster Rock Public Library is located at Tobique Valley High School. A wide range of personal interest and educational resources are available. Regular displays of historical and local interest take place at the Library.
